Halloween is America’s third favorite holiday, trailing only behind Christmas and Thanksgiving. 65% of Americans plan to celebrate Halloween in 2021.  Although COVID concerns impacted participation in 2020, consumers still spent about $8 billion on Halloween costumes, decor, candy, and more. This year, Halloween spending is predicted to reach an all-time high of over $10 billion.  Let’s dive into some facts about consumer spending for Halloween, when people begin to prepare, and consumer sentiment around this year’s holiday.

AMERICANS ARE EXCITED FOR COSTUMES AND CANDY: 

Consumers of all ages are planning for a return to normal Halloween activities this year.

86% are more or as excited for this Halloween compared to years past. 

66% plan on doing more for this Halloween in companions to past holidays.

WHEN DO CONSUMERS BEGIN TO PREPARE FOR THE HOLIDAY? 

How early is too early? 

60% of people don’t want to see Halloween products on store shelves before September. 

47% of people believe between October 1 and 15 is the most acceptable time to put out your Halloween decorations. 

While people aren’t ready for Halloween products until September, 25% of consumers want pumpkin spice in August.
